DIY MFA Is Going to Be a Book!

I am so unbelievably excited to share this news with you today. As of late last week it is official: DIY MFA will be a book and Writer’s Digest Books is going to publish it. The contract is signed, sealed and delivered, and in Spring 2016 the DIY MFA book will be coming to a bookstore near you.

But first things first: I wanted to thank you for helping to make this happen. By being a member of this community, by visiting this website and by listening to the podcast, you have been instrumental in helping me reach this goal and make the DIY MFA book a reality. Without this community, DIY MFA would still be just a “crazy idea” in my head. Being able to share it with you is has spurred me forward and helped me make this book a reality. So if you’re reading this, when that book hits the shelves, I want you to know that you helped make this happen and for that I am so unbelievably grateful.

Second, I wanted to share this news so you can see that good things are possible. Sometimes you have to tough it out for several years to see that glimmer of an idea become a full-blown book, but if it happened for me with DIY MFA, then it can happen for you too. This is proof that little idea can go a long way with some hard work and help from your friends.

So, what happens next?

Well, now I have to write the book. Since it’s non-fiction and my agent sold it based on a proposal, this means that I have a detailed outline and some writing samples, but I still need to write the actual book. This is my big goal for early 2015 and as I hit milestones and learn from this process, I’ll share it with you. This way you can get behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to write, edit and publish a book. While no two authors’ journeys are identical, my hope is that by sharing this experience and process, it will help you reach your own writing goals.

Please help me celebrate.

Good news is so much better when you share it with friends. Can you help me spread the word? Please tweet it out!

As always, I am so honored to have you in our DIY MFA community. Thank you for helping me my DIY MFA dream come true.

Keep writing and keep being awesome!
