Great choice of questions to ask beta readers and critique partners, Sara! I used some of these during my first round of betas, but I’d like to use the more detailed/specific questions you mentioned next time, such as: “Did you care about what happened to the protagonist as well as the character herself?” or “Were you worried or curious about how things would turn out?”

In reply to Jason Bougger. Thanks, Jason! Your suggestion about a satisfying ending is a great one, too. It's important to know whether beta-readers / critique partners think the story ties up all the loose ends or if something seems to be missing.

It’s always a good idea to go to a critique with specific questions and these five are really good ones. I also like to ask if the ending resolved enough of the plot, or if it needed more.

Here’s a few more: Did the beginning hook your interest immediately? Was there enough setting and character description to help you visualize things? Too much detail?
