In reply to <a href="https://diymfa.com/podcast/episode-36-writer-igniter-anthology/#comment-1800">Trudy</a>.

Great point, Trudy! Since I don't write much non-fiction (aside from DIY MFA but that's a different type of non-fiction) it hadn't really occurred to me that the Writer Igniter would be so limiting to creative non-fiction writers. I can't speak for the other people on the editorial team, but as far as I'm concerned I'll say this: as long as a piece fits the theme and the writing grabs me, I'd be willing to interpret a prompt a bit more loosely in favor of excellent writing. The challenge, as you say, is to use the prompt generator. We'd like to see people use it and see the creative fruits that come from the app. But how closely writers stick with the prompt they get is a different story. Personally, I'm willing to leave room for interpretation. Any thoughts, fellow editors?

The only concern I have is that for nonfiction writers,it seems a bit impossible to weave the random elements of 'writer igniter' into the story in a truthful manner. For example, last time I got something to do with alien abuduction,a game show host, and a last will and testament..and a riviera. I think it would be much easier to make a great fiction piece, but not so much an essay. Or perhaps that IS the challenge...my brain hurts. Nevermind.
