Angie Karchner holds a poetry challenge in April and some of the top poets give their four cents worth each day, along with a lesson. It is very indepth. Ellen Hopkins is one fantastic poet. She writes her young adult novels in verse and the verse is in a pattern. Some have meaning reading left to right and from top to bottom, both related to the other but different. Her writing is amazing. The subjects are not easy ones. She takes on teen pregnancy, date rape, drug addiction (somewhat based on her own daughter’s addiction), but whatever the subject if you were to open her book and look at the page, it looks like poetry in motion, no matter what page you open the book to. Many verses line up to make an image. I find her work amazing.

Great post. I’m a verse novelist myself (AUDACIOUS from Orca Books fall 2013). I only challenge that you say in verse novels the verse is un-rhymed. I use some rhyme in AUDACIOUS and I know of at least one recent novel, Zorgamazoo, written entirely in rhyming verse (https://www.zorgamazoo.com/).
