Curriculum Director and Editor’s Corner Columnist
Jeanette Smith is a writer, editor, speaker, and cat Instagrammer based in Dallas, Texas.
Once upon a time, Jeanette wrote a story and shared it with a classmate—who hated it. Jeanette’s teacher then told her something she’ll never forget. She said, “Jeanette, everyone is going to criticize your work. That’s what it means to be a writer.” Since then, the only critic Jeanette has listened to is herself.
Today, she makes her living as a freelance writer and editor. At DIY MFA, she acts as the Curriculum Director (aka Unicorn), helping to shape and perfect the courses, sprints, and events. She also writes the Editor’s Corner column, covering both the technical and emotional sides of the editing process. Finally, she leads the team of DIY MFA Book Coaches in our private mentorship and small group coaching programs.
Jeanette believes that with the right mindset, knowledge, and tools, every writer can tackle their writing and editing goals to produce the best draft possible. When she’s not writing or editing, you can find her absorbed in a Netflix marathon, learning a new craft, or teaching a scuba diving class. Check out her website.
