[…] Plucky Comic Relief Also known as The Fool. May not be a Best Friend but can sometimes double in that role. Does not necessarily provide a skill or tool useful to the Main Character, but can provide commentary about the Narrative or wisdom similar to a Mentor figure. Can be a Minor Character, but is too fun to ignore or is vital to the Narrative at some point.
In reply to <a href="https://diymfa.com/writing/archetypes-for-supporting-characters/#comment-1559">Cris</a>.

Cris, love this idea of Vader as the protagonist and n light of the prequels I definitely think you're right. I would argue that in the first original Star Wars (Ep. 4) Luke is more protagonist and Darth is the primary nemesis. As the trilogy continues, the roles tend to shift with Vader becoming more of a "misunderstood" dark protagonist. But again, it totally depends on the perspective through which one views the story. Definitely when you pull the prequels into the picture, Vader is clearly the series protagonist and Luke just happens to be the POV character for the later set of movies.

Nice article and I'm not sure if you'll even see this after 2 years, but I've been analyzing Star Wars lately, and I believe that Darth isn't a supporting character, but he's actually the Protagonist for the story. Its a character driven story and the climax of the story hangs on his decision to join his son and turn against the dark side/emperor. Luck is simply the view point character.
