I definitely agree about hitting the "publish" button; it helps a lot with perfectionism. Actually that's one reason I find play-by-post group RPGs helpful as a writer; you write something and click "post", there's not a lot of time to endlessly revise and be shy, because someone is waiting on your reply.

Agreed - blogging is so flexible, I love how it can truly just be a little journal that one shares with the world.

Ava,
Thank you so much! So much of this is managing fear and opportunity. And that takes building habits. Great to hear your experience here.

Agreeing with Ava! Very useful post - I've just started blogging too, but I'm not doing it so much as a marketing tool - more something to make me write every day in a different discipline. I get so narrow-voiced writing novels that it's bliss to just chatter, and not worry about who will read it, and how the character arc is looking.
Anyway, thank you very much!

What a great post. I completely agree with all of your points, and I found the first two particularly interesting. I've been blogging for nearly two years now, and I've found that over time, hitting the "publish" button has indeed become easier. What I considered terrifying two years ago has now become a part of my weekly routine. Very interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing.
