I definitely agree about hitting the “publish” button; it helps a lot with perfectionism. Actually that’s one reason I find play-by-post group RPGs helpful as a writer; you write something and click “post”, there’s not a lot of time to endlessly revise and be shy, because someone is waiting on your reply.

Agreeing with Ava! Very useful post – I’ve just started blogging too, but I’m not doing it so much as a marketing tool – more something to make me write every day in a different discipline. I get so narrow-voiced writing novels that it’s bliss to just chatter, and not worry about who will read it, and how the character arc is looking.

What a great post. I completely agree with all of your points, and I found the first two particularly interesting. I’ve been blogging for nearly two years now, and I’ve found that over time, hitting the “publish” button has indeed become easier. What I considered terrifying two years ago has now become a part of my weekly routine. Very interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing.
