I can’t underscore enough how important it is to put success in perspective. I know for me, it’s SO easy to discount the good and focus on the bad. Without a second thought, I can shrug off all the victories of the last year and just call them flukes or happy accidents, but when that one thing does go wrong, then it’s “all my fault” and I’ll obsess about it forever.

While I rarely write articles with a specific reader in mind, this is one that I wrote because it was advice that I myself really needed to read. It probably sounds crazy, but somehow by putting the words down on the page (or in this case, the website) it makes the advice much harder for me to ignore. It forces me to “walk the talk” as it were, and keep my own goals, successes and failures in perspective.

Thanks for sharing this. Writers and other creatives can not be reminded enough of these points. Creativity of all kinds is subjective and as such prone to our own criticism and, we suspect, the criticism of others. We are enough. we must continue to move forward to completion of each project and believe in our successes. Great post!

As someone just starting out, this post gives me a great way for me to put my work in the proper perspective. I think it will be helpful to set meaningful goals for 2013 as well. Thanks for sharing.
