Leanne and I have been talking back and forth about this and related topics lately. It seems like bravery, honesty, and perseverance have been on a lot of writers’ minds lately, especially given recent events. I had a revelation about my story over the summer (which inspired my “Why” Behind Our Writing post) because it follows a young protagonist who learns the value of compassion and forgiveness – but she certainly doesn’t start off that way. It wasn’t something I thought about too much during the story’s first two drafts. But over the summer and into November, I discovered how (dare I say it?) important the story’s themes and the MC’s journey might be to readers. It makes me all the more determined to improve and polish the story, and then get it out there into the world.
