Writer Igniter Submissions

The goal of Writer Igniter: Origins is to discover and share new voices.

We are actively looking for innovative fiction, flash fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction for this inaugural volume of our Writer Igniter Anthology. Want to be part of this project? Send us something you’ve written based on a prompt from the Writer Igniter story generator. Just make sure it fits the theme and get it to us by August 31, 2015.

Guidelines

We accept original works of fiction, flash fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. All works must fit the theme for the current volume, and must use a prompt from www.writerigniter.com. The current theme is ORIGINS. This is a broad theme. Feel free to get creative.

  • Fiction: up to 2,000 words
  • Poetry: up to 5 poems
  • Creative Nonfiction: up to 2,000 words

Submit your piece along with a short note and a screen capture from the Writer Igniter prompt page showing the prompt you used for your piece. Paste your piece into the body of the email, please, and include a brief bio with your submission. Elisabeth Kauffman is the Co-Editor in charge of this project, so submit to her attention at submissions@DIYMFA.com.

We think simultaneous submission are great, so go ahead and submit your work to other places as well as this anthology. If your work is accepted elsewhere, that’s awesome. Please let us know as soon as possible so we can remove your piece from consideration, and also so we can give you a virtual high five!

We want each volume to represent the most diverse group of voices as possible. For this reason, we don’t accept multiple submissions. This means you should only send in one submission (i.e. one piece of fiction or nonfiction, or up to five poems) per volume. If we get multiple submissions from you, we will consider only the first thing you send. This means if you’ve got multiple pieces that fit our theme, pick your best one and send that.

Our team of readers is working hard to read and respond to submissions within two months, but if three months go by and you still have not heard from one of us, feel free to drop us a line at submissions@DIYMFA.com.

The Fine Print

If your piece gets selected for the Writer Igniter Anthology, we will send you a simple agreement to sign and return. Basically you’ll agree to let us publish your piece in the Anthology (published as an eBook and Print On Demand for paperback copies) and you won’t publish it anywhere else until 90 days after the Anthology is released. (Our target launch is set for early November, barring any major delays. Just FYI.)

Also, if you ever reprint your piece at any point after those 90 days, we just ask that you include a note saying that your piece first appeared in this anthology.

In return, we’ll send you a digital copy of the Anthology with our compliments, and we’ll feature you as an anthology contributor in an article at DIY MFA. Plus, you’ll get bragging rights. (And who doesn’t love bragging rights?) Make sense? Awesome. Got questions? Email us at submissions@DIYMFA.com.
