DIY MFA Will Be at WANACon

I am so excited to share that I’ll be representing DIY MFA at a fabulous online conference later this month. WANACon is an awesome conference and–get this–you can attend in your jammies! Seriously, it doesn’t get much better than that when you can hear from top industry experts and connect with other likeminded writers all from the comfort of your own home.

Why WANACon?

When it comes to conferences that fit the “DIY MFA way,” WANACon fits the bill. You can be part of the fun no matter where you live and the events are on Friday and Saturday (afternoons and evenings) so even if you have a day job, you can see many of the sessions live. What if you’re in a time zone where the live presentations happen at 2am? No problem. You can still catch all the recordings for a period of time after the conference.

As for financial considerations, while many in-person conferences might cost $400, $500 or more (before factoring in airfare or hotel), WANACon will only set you back $149. Plus, WANA is offering a promotion this week for $15 off (just use the promo code: Valentine). Talk about a win-win-win!

Finally, in keeping with the conference themes of Romance and steps for writers post-NaNoWriMo,  I’ll be teaching two sessions at WANACon. The first is “7 Steps to a Stronger Love Story” and the second is “Simple System to Rock Your Revisions.” Plus I’ll be giving a FREE pre-conference talk this Wednesday on “How to Get the Most Out of a Conference” (see below for details on this free presentation).

Full disclosure: I don’t get any financial benefit from promoting this conference, but I am one of the speakers and I absolutely LOVE what WANACon stands for. I guess you could say I’m a little bit biased, but that’s because I truly believe in what this conference is about and the amazing value it has to offer.

FREE Pre-Conference Open House

If I haven’t already convinced you to sign up for this conference stat, you should check out this FREE pre-conference Open House Presentation that I’m giving this Wednesday, February 12 at 8pm ET. I’ll be presenting on the topic “How to Get the Most Out of a Conference” and sharing some insider tips I’ve learned after attending and speaking at dozens of events, both online and in person.

To attend this FREE presentation just follow these 3 easy steps:

  1. Go to https://wanacon.com/ at 8PM Eastern (New York) time / 5pm Pacific (Seattle) time.
  2. On the right sidebar, select “WANACon Open House – Feb 12, 2014” from the drop-down box under “Conference Hall A”.
  3. Enter your name and the password “welcome”, and then click “Join.”

Note:  The virtual doors will open at 7pm ET so you can join in early to mix n’ mingle with other attendees and also make sure any computer gremlins are fixed before the fun starts at 8pm.

What is WANA anyway?

WANA stands for “We Are Not Alone” and it’s the brainchild of author Kristen Lamb. You’ve probably seen the #myWANA hash tag on Twitter and you may already be familiar with Kristen’s blog. But WANA is more than a blog, a hash tag or an organization. This movement has built up momentum of monumental proportions and it’s all about writers supporting and helping other writers.

What are you waiting for?
Mark your Google Calendar for the pre-conference talk.

Hope to “see” you there!
